The melt index tester is used to measure the melt mass flow rate (MFR; unit: g/10min) of thermoplastic plastics. It is suitable for the determination of the melt index at high temperatures of various polymer plastic raw materials such as polyethylene, polystyrene, polypropylene, ABS resin, polyoxymethylene resin, polycarbonate, nylon, fluoroplastic, etc. It is widely applied in industries such as the production of plastic raw materials, plastic products, petrochemical industry, as well as relevant institutions of higher learning, scientific research departments, and commodity inspection departments.
Under the specified temperature conditions, a high-temperature heating furnace is used to bring the tested material to a molten state. The tested material in the molten state undergoes an extrusion test through a small hole of a certain diameter under the load gravity of the specified weight. In the plastic production of industrial enterprises and the research of scientific research institutions, the "melt (mass) flow rate" is often used to represent the physical properties such as the fluidity and viscosity of polymer materials in the molten state. The so-called melt index refers to the extrusion amount within 10 minutes converted from the average weight of each segment of the extruded sample.
